ok, so guys give me some suggestions for feeding a baby...how can it not be so messy, oh and i am talking about feeding food not bottles or breast got that down packed
I'd use a baby spoon that is rounded and your fingers. You feel to get the food on the spoon, then you touch the baby's face to find the mouth, so you can put the food in easy. Baby's move lots, so touch him or her. If the food is solid enough simply feed with your hand.
It got messy the first time I tried, and the kid I was feeding was howling at the time. very impatient little guy. lol but I managed. well, I had a little help because he was my friend's Godson. She was holding him. I had the spoon in my left hand, since I'm lefthanded with silverware or any eating utensil, and I found his mouth with my right hand. Ugh, that baby food has the consistency of chocolate pudding, but it smells nasty ... I'll never forget that. Lots of fun. I hope your little one's not quite as fussy. good luck.
lol my son is goin 2 b 2 and a half this month on the 12th, and i remember those days, trust me!!!!! b patient, cuz before u know it, instead of u finding there mouth, they will find the spoon!!
lol...I will give it another shot soon, she'll be starting solids this month
Are you going to be feeding her the stuff in a jar? I found that the Stage 1 foods were too runny for me to feed on their own, so I'd add a little rice cereal 'til it was the consistency of apple sauce, and then fed it to her. I'd use one hand to find her mouth and the other to hold the spoon. After doing that enough times, it was easy enough to just hold the spoon up close to her face because she would put her mouth to the spoon by herself.
It gets really, really messy when they start grabbing for the spoon and wanting to feed themselves! LOL. Remember that she's not going to be eating solids for her nutrients, because that's still coming from your breastmilk/formula. Feeding solids is mainly for the experience, so letting her put her hands in it and making a mess of it is actually good for her. Trust me, there were days I wanted to avoid all the mess because I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle afterward. *grumbles* Sometimes I kept an extra spoon around during feedings, so that I could offer it to her when she started grabbing at the spoon I was using. It seemed to help.
Anyway, the most important thing is to have fun with it!

thanks all...she doesn't like rice cerial, any suggestions
i made my kids' baby food with a blender. then i could make it the consistency that worked best for me. they also make baby oatmeal and another kind of baby cereal. if you want her to eat it, mix it with a little breast milk or formula. they are used to that taste and it will go down better. it's not that nutritious so if she doesn't like it, oh well.... also, if you are in your own house it works to just use your fingers. they can lick it off. that is if you are in a real hurry. also i put my finger under the chin so the head wouldn't move that much.
ook for a cereal she likes.
she will eat the kind with the apples and bananas in it but won't mess with the plain kind
it also helps to hold the baby on your lap facing away from you, sounds a little odd, I know, but it helps because you can keep track of each way the baby moves her head. it does sound more complacated, but really isn't.
True True.
Now about that plain stuff you ever try it? hahaha. I don't blame her!
yeah it was quite horrible
so now I am trying to figure out a way to feed her without the huge mess...I have a fast baby and if I am taking too long with the spoon she is grabbing for the spoon befor I even get the chance to put in her mouth, and when she does this the food ends up mainly on her clothes and not in her tummy...any suggestions?
strip her clothes off when your feeding her. saves the amount of dirty clothes you will have to wash. That is what I did when I fed my younger cousins
Put a finger or two on her chin or cheek. The chin works better if she'll tolerate it, and that way, you'll be able to guide the spoon in. High-chairs are great for this, but if she'll sit and not make a fuss, I would put the baby on my knee with her back to me. That way, you cradle the head as well as have the chin and it's even easier. Spread a towel over her though. That way, the baby's clothes and yours are protected.
Hope this helps

Yep just no dressing up for eating. Smile. Now if she's grabbing for the spoon then you can hear her, so if you put one hand on her chin and go high until you get close to the mouth, then you're sure where it is so then hold her hands and she'll get it. Lol. You have to be fast now. Smile practice makes less mess. Smile.
thanks guys
